   My Sub-Zero wine cooler was dying after about 20 years of service, so I decided to replace it with the NutriChef 18 Bottle Compressor Wine Cooler. So far, it’s an excellent choice! It’s slightly smaller than the Sub-Zero, so I constructed a new enclosure in the kitchen shown in the photo. The NutriChef PKCWC18 is super quiet. In fact, there’s no noise at all. It’s easy to setup. The only thing that had to be done was attach the handle. Some people have had problems with this. It’s not difficult. Push the screw through the top hole first, then push it all the way in with a Phillips screwdriver. That gives you about 1/4″ of screw to align with the nut in the handle. Don’t tighten it all the way until you do the same with the bottom screw. Then, tighten both, but don’t over-tighten. Just until the handle is secure. To adjust the temperature, press the “Settings” button for TWO seconds and you’ll hear the beep, and the temperature can be adjusted. When I first plugged my unit in, the temperature quickly went down to 44 deg. I adjusted it at that point to 55 deg and it hasn’t moved from that temperature since. There’s really no reason to go below 50 deg for wine. If I want refrigerator temperatures, I’ll use my refrigerator, not my wine cooler. So far, I couldn’t be happier with this wine cooler. I doubt it will last as long as the Sub-Zero, but at $212 vs $2,800 who cares. I can purchase ten NutriChef PKCWC18 for the price of my one Sub-Zero! It’s a bargain!

   I liked this wine fridge for the space saving size. It is taller and a bit narrower than most which is what I needed. It is a few inches taller than counter height so it doesn’t stand out too much when sat adjacent to a counter. Most of the bottles store completely horizontal, which is good for aging. A couple bottles at the bottom sit at about a 45 degree angle. I like to use those spots for bottles I plan to open soonest because they allow sediments to settle. It is a single zone fridge so one temperature throughout which works fine for my needs. I like the sleek and sophisticated look. Aside from the handle, the entire body is smooth. The control panel is completely digital and nicely backlit for ease of seeing. The interior of the fridge has lighting and is easy into thanks to the large glass panel. I think it works well. Keeps bottles nicely chilled.

   Just unboxed this fridge yesterday and it was easy to level and attach handle. I like the fact that I can turn off the interior light. The temperature control is easy to read and change if needed. I had no problem placing several red bottles and a few champagne bottles on the racks, all fit fine. I realize it’s early, but this fridge works great and did not take long to get to the set temperature. I cannot hear the motor at all. I’m sure it must be making some noise, but not enough to pull my attention. I will update if things change after prolonged use. UPDATE: I have had this cooler for about a month. Today I noticed that the temperature was showing higher than I had it set. I pressed the settings key to unlock the control panel so I could reset the temperature but the temperature control arrows did not respond. It wasn’t until I unplugged and plugged it back in that the temperature button worked. The temperature was still set at 55, even though the panel was showing 60. Aftet plugging it backnin I was able to drop the temperature back down to 55 and the fridge did respond (assuming the temperature reading is accurate). Very frustrating… I will monitor as the days go on, but thus is a swing and a miss.

   This is a very nice small wine freezer. It is compact and can take quite a bit. I’ve been using this for the last four years and it looks like new. The Temperature is evenly distributed and it keeps drinks cold. It is of great value especially given the fact that it still works and has not had any problems. A very durable purchase I must say.    Updated 7/12/2023: I’m nearly 2 months into my purchase and I’m really pleased! We discovered the slightly rattling noise was just an inner mechanism touching the panel and by pushing it slightly, it’s now silent. I truly don’t notice most times when the condenser kicks on. I haven’t noticed an abnormal increase in my power bill by adding this appliance. I’m still not convinced the temperature is accurate. I keep this at 46 degrees but honestly I feel like my white and sparkling wines aren’t quite as cold as that. Anytime I open the door, it will immediately lose the cold air so I try to be quick with my selection. In my opinion, the light inside is pretty useless. I never use it. Between the weakness of the bulb and the tint of the door, it’s not really easy to see what I have. It’s pretty much only to see how many bottles there are but I can’t really read labels well without opening the door. Overall, I’m very pleased. No regrets so far! Original Review: Ok – it’s been running for just under 24 hours under my kitchen counter. Here are my first impressions from your average wino: – I’m very sensitive to noise and I think this is pretty quiet. It’s not any louder than my standard-size kitchen fridge and it’s way quieter than my washer and dryer (which are nearby). But when it turns on, I do hear a rattling (I think it’s the fan) when it’s actively cooling and it’s definitely louder if I’m up close to the unit. When I’m moving around my house, I really don’t notice it. Plus, it doesn’t run that long so if I’m really paying attention, I only hear noise maybe for 90 seconds or so as it cools and reaches the set temperature. – I’m very skeptical about the cooling times and temperature. I’ve set it to 50 degrees but the display will jump between 53 and 50 degrees throughout the day. I don’t have a method to test the inside temp yet but I have a couple of theories. One, the display is just inaccurate. Two, the insulation is probably not that great so it’s losing cool air and starts to warm up past the set temperature at which point it will kick on and start to cool back to my set temp. Three, whatever sensor/thermostat gauges the temperature is overly sensitive and overcompensating by setting off the compressor. – I’m leaning toward theory 2. I haven’t properly timed it but my best estimation is that it seems to kick on every 3-5 minutes. I don’t know if that’s normal for this size fridge but that seems pretty frequent to me. I currently have 3 bottles in it and I haven’t opened it since I placed the bottles inside about 8 hours ago. In my opinion, I feel like it should retain cold air longer (as long as I’m not opening the door a lot) so it’s not running as much. I do wonder if I put more bottles inside, if it will start running longer in order to try to cool all the bottles OR is it better to have a full fridge of bottles because it will retain the set temperature better since all the bottles are chilled? I wish I paid attention in science class. – The size is perfect for me and accommodates standard white wine bottles (my preference). I have to remove a wine rack completely to fit anything bubbly because the bottle is just too wide. I haven’t tried yet but I also plan to store a handful of beer bottles and think it should accommodate those nicely too. – I opted for the glass version (no stainless steel handle) and think this looks way more sleek, sophisticated and unobtrusive. It’s easy to clean. Overall, I’m cautiously optimistic. It’s the perfect size for my needs, affordable, it’s quiet, looks great and is such a treat to have chilled wines at the ready. However, I am skeptical about how often it runs and whether it’s truly at the temperature I set it to. I also want to keep an eye on my energy bill to see if I notice any drastic upticks in cost.

    Had it running for a few months now, no issues at all. It looks nice, and is fairly quiet. Not nearly as loud as a regular fridge, but it does have a compressor and you can hear it when it turns on. I wouldn’t put it in a bedroom, but it is quiet enough to put in most rooms.

    You have to pull the rubber seal out of the door to install the handle. The seal is in there pretty good, but if gently and insistently pull at it, it does come out. Once the seal is out putting the handle on is easy.
